1. Are there any hidden fees?
No. There are no hidden fees. What you see listed on our website is the cost you will be paying. Also, we do not charge a setup fee.

2. How long does it take for my account to be activated?
Accounts are usually activated within 1 hour during business hours.

3. Do I have to have a domain in order to host with you?
Yes. We do not offer subdomain hosting. We can purchase a domain in your name for you for $15.00 per year.

4. I don’t have a credit card, what other methods of payment is there?
At this time, we accept credit card payments (via PayPal), US Postal Money Orders, and PayPal . If paying with a Money Order payment is required prior of account activation.

5. Can I upgrade my account at any time?
To upgrade/downgrade your account, please submit a ticket at: http://the-webhosts.com/helpdesk/

6. Do I have to sign a contract?
No. We do not require our clients to sign a contract, however, all clients are required to agree to our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.

7. What happens if I go over my bandwidth?
If you go over your bandwidth the control panel will shut off your account. If you notice that you are getting close to going over your bandwidth limit, please contact us http://the-webhosts.com/helpdesk/ to either upgrade your account or purchase more bandwidth .

8. How much does additional bandwidth cost?
Additional bandwidth costs $2.00 dollars per every Gigabyte.

9. Can I have more than one domain under one account?
Depends on the package that you choose, each comes with a certain number of domain names that it will host.

10. Can I have subdomains off my domain name?
Yes. Each package comes with a certain number of subdomains.

11. Can subdomains send/recieve email?
Yes, subdomains can send/recieve email.

12. Can I register a domain with you? Will you register it for me?
Yes, we can register your domain for you for a charge of $15.00 We will register the domain name for you and list you as the owner.

13. Can I get a full 30-days money back if I am unsatisfied with your service?
If after 30 days, you are not satisfied with our service, you can get your money back. However, any extra charges such as more bandwidth, more space will not be returned.

14. Do you allow php scripts?
Yes we do allow php scripts. Currently we are running version 5.3.2

15. Do you allow CGI scripts?
Yes we do allow CGI Scripts. Place the scripts in your cgi-bin.

16. Do you allow ASP Scripts?
We currently have apache ASP running on the server. This is not full ASP and will not work with some applications written for Windows.

17. Do you support MySQL?
Yes we do support MySQL. Most of our accounts come with a MySQL database.

18. Do you support Frontpage extensions?
We are no longer supporting FrongPage extensions. We have this featured turned off on our servers.

19. Do I get a control panel?
Yes, We run the cPanel Control Panel.

20. Can I host a Warez or Adult site?
No! We do NOT accept Warez or Adult sites! If you account is found to have warez material on it, your account will be terminated and their 30-day money back refund invalid.

21. Do you allow MP3 sites?
No.

22. Do you allow IRC Channels/Bots/Clients?
No. Any client caught running a IRC Channel/bot/client on our servers will have their account terminated and their 30-day money back refund invalid.

23. Do you allow chatrooms?
Yes, but be warned…chatrooms can hog massive bandwidth and cpu resources.

24. Will you install a CGI/PHP script for me?
We will install scripts for you, but there is normally a very long list of people waiting to have scripts installed for them and there is an extra charge for this service depending on the script and the amount of time it takes to install it. Whether we will install a script or not is solely up to the discretion of our admins.

1. Can I upgrade my account?
Of course you can! Simply contact us via our support ticket system http://the-webhosts.com/helpdesk/ with what you would like to upgrade and we’ll tell you how much it costs.

2. My domain hasn’t updated yet, but is there a way I can preview my site?
You may preview your site on the preview link sent to you in your welcome lettter. If your package comes with a dedicated IP (these are for SSL sites), you can preview your site by going to by going to the IP Address (ie. http://123.123.123.123) assigned to you.

3. Where is my control panel located at?
To access your control panel, go to https://your IP number:2083 and when prompted, enter your username/password.

4. How can I view my stats?
Currently they are turned off by default. If you wish this feature to be turned on, please contact us.

5. How do I upload my site?
To upload your site, you need to use a FTP Program (ie. WS_FTP, Cute_FTP) and FTP to ftp.yourdomain.com (or IP #) with your username/password.

6. I’ve uploaded my site but the welcome page is still showing, how come?
Upload you files to the www or public_html folder and they will be viewable. Make sure you replace with default index.html with yours.

7. How can I add/delete an email address?
You can add delete email address by going in to you control panel and pressing the email accounts button.
Login to your control panel.

* Click on the Email Accounts button
* Put in the desired username and press create account.

How Do I Set Up SMTP Authentication in Outlook XP?

Below are directions to set up SMTP Authentication using Microsoft Outlook.

1. Open your email program.

2. Go to the Tools menu and choose Email Accounts…

3. Click View or change existing e-mail accountsif it is not already selected.

4. Click Next The E-mail accounts window will appear.

5. In the window, as displayed below, click your email account to select it.

6. Click the Change button on the right side

7. Make sure that your "Incoming mail (POP3)" is set to your domain. (ie: mail.yourdomain.com)

8. Make sure your Outgoing mail(SMTP)is set to: mail.yourdomain.com

9. In the window, as displayed below, click the More Settings… button

10. As detailed below, click the Outgoing Server.

11. Place a check-mark in My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication

12. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

13. Click OK

14. You will be taken back to the E-mail Settings (POP3) window. Click Next and finish the setup.

15. You have successfully set up SMTP Authentication.

8. How do I change my MX Records?

9. How do I create a subdomain?
You can create them in your control panel as long as your package allows for it.

10. Where is Perl located?
Perl is located at /usr/bin/perl

11. Where is my cgi-bin folder?
Place your scripts in the cgi-bin.

12. How do I access my MySQL Database?
This can be access through your control panel under the Database Section.

13. How can I telnet or SSH to my site?
We have disabled Telnet. We do not allow SSH access on any of our servers. We do this for the security of ALL of our clients. If you need a command run via SSH, please contact us via our support ticket system http://the-webhosts.com/helpdesk/.

14. Help! My site has been suspended! What do I do?
Please contact us at http://the-webhosts.com/helpdesk/ to find out the exact reason. This is usually because we have not received payment. If we suspend your account for a TOS/AUP violation you will receive and email.

15. Do you offer backups?
You can use the backup feature in the control panel. We do NOT do daily backups.

16. I would like to cancel my account.

17. What is the location of sendmail?
Sendmail is located at /usr/sbin/sendmail

18. How come I am recieving a 500 Internal Error on my scripts?
You can recieve a 500 Internal Error for many reasons. Make sure your scripts are pointing to the right location to perl (/usr/bin/perl) and you have chmod it to 755.

19. Do you provide SSI (Server Side Included)?
Yes we do support SSI.

20. What is the path to my home directory?
Web Folder – /home/username/www or public_html
CGI-Bin – /home/username/cgi-bin

21. Where do I point my domain to?
We have more than one set of nameservesr depending on what server you are on. Please check your welcome letter for the correct nameservers for the server that you are on, or email us and we can tell you.

22. How do I create a custom 404 error page?
Log in to you account, via FTP and find them in the www folder.

23. How can I create a password protected directory?
This can easily be done in the control panel by using the Security section.

24. How long does it take for my domain to work?
Once you point your domain to our servers, please allow 24-72 hours for your domain to work. If after 72 hours, your domain is still not functioning, please contact us via our support ticket system http://the-webhosts.com/helpdesk/

25. I’m having trouble with FTP. It connects, but doesn’t allow me to see the files on the server.
Check your FTP program and make sure you are connecting to the server in active mode and not Passive.

26. Where do I find out how billing works ?
We bill on the 15th of each month. ALL payments are due on the 1st of the month. Example: We will you on March 15th and your payment is due on April 1st. Any account that is 10 days over due will be suspended. We do not like suspending service on our customers. If you are going to be late with your payment, please let us know. We are very understanding, but please do not take advantage of this.
